Why Christians Put Love First

Good morning, everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about love - a word that we hear often in our everyday lives, but one that is deeply rooted in the Bible and in our faith.

In the Bible, love is mentioned over 500 times. It is described as the greatest commandment, the foundation of all other commandments, and the very essence of God's character. Love is not just a feeling, but a deliberate choice and action towards others. In 1 Corinthians 13, it says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

This passage reminds us that love is not just about what we feel towards others, but about how we treat them. Love is about patience, kindness, and humility. It is about putting others before ourselves and not keeping a record of wrongs. It is about protecting, trusting, and hoping, even in the face of adversity.

In our lives, love is essential. It is what gives us purpose and meaning. It is what brings us joy and fulfillment. Love is what connects us to others and to God. Without love, we are nothing.

So, what does it mean to love in our everyday lives? It means showing kindness to a stranger, forgiving a friend who has wronged us, and treating our enemies with respect. It means putting our family before our own desires, helping those in need, and giving generously to others. It means standing up for what is right, even when it's difficult, and speaking truth in love.

In John 13:34-35, Jesus says, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Let us strive to love as Jesus loved - with humility, compassion, and sacrifice. Let us show the world what it means to be a follower of Christ, by the love we show towards others.

So, as we leave here today, let us remember the power of love - a power that can transform our lives and the world around us. May we go forth and love one another, as Christ has loved us. Amen.
